Find Out More About Peter Lloyd
Pete's been involved in sports since a child, playing rugby in school /county teams then on to teams in Haverfordwest, Tenby, Swansea and Welsh Colleges. When he started teaching he passed on his love for sport to his pupils, some of whom he now coaches. He's been a member of Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club since the 1990s , did short-distance and cycling races until 2013 when he entered Ironman Lanzarote. Supposed to be 'just the one IM' he got hooked and did Ironman Wales that same year! A month later, Peter was knocked off his bike and was badly hurt. As part of his rehab and needing a goal, he entered Mallorca 70.3 after which his passion grew - along with his race entries! Over the next few years, he started coaching alongside racing. Then, after 27 years teaching he left to focus on training and coaching #trilloydy athletes, to help them achieve their various goals.
What got you into triathlon (and when)?
Sitting on Newgale beach in 1995 with a mate I said that I’d like to do a triathlon but couldn’t swim. He asked if I learned to swim in school, I said 'yes' and six weeks later I was on the beach in Port Eynon with my best mate, starting my triathlon journey!!!
What’s been your favourite race?
World 70.3 Champs in St George.
(And all 3 of the IM I've done in Lanzarote!)
What is your ultimate triathlon ambition / Dream Race?
It has to be to race Kona but I’ll have to ‘go long’ again!!
Best triathlon moment so far?
There are two. Floating down the red carpet in IM Lanzarote 2013, crossing the finishing line in what was going to be my only IM and also, standing waiting to start the World Champs at Sand Hollow, Utah. Little did I know the first best moment would lead to the second one 9 years later!!!
Which triathlete would you like to meet / triathlon hero?
Got to be Lionel Sanders!! I’ve raced in same race as him but never met him.

One bit of advice for a newbie….
Keep at it - because triathlon, especially running down the carpet at the end of an Ironman, is so special. Oh, if you go IM distance, be prepared, the Ironman Blues are very, very real!!!!!!!!
Non-triathlon sporting hero? Roy Keane, Kelly Slater and locally,Peter Morgan. All three had a such commitment to their sport/teams!!
What quote keeps you going in the tough times? “You can quit if you want, and no one will care. But you will know the rest of your life.” – John Collins
What are your top one / two motivational songs?
