IMW Veterans 2023

Martin and Tommy have been with Peter for a number of years but have been 'Slaying the Dragon' for a few more than that!  Here's a little about these multiple IM Wales finishers!

Martin Green  - retired businessman and the current Master of the Guild of Freemen of Haverfordwest, Martin is a well-known figure in Pembrokeshire.  Also retired from being a Colonel in the Army Reserves, he now keeps busy as a swim coach at the Sports Centre and well as training for an Ironman or two.....

Martin after last years IMW which was no. 4!

When did you start competing in triathlon?

Did my first race in 2016, Saundersfoot Tri - loved it, got hooked!

What ‘number’ IMW will this be?

Number 5, first was 2017.

Why do you like such an iconic race?

The whole atmosphere on the day is totally exhilarating from start to finish.

What are you looking forward to on race day/weekend?

To be honest, I'm looking forward to the whole event. It's by far the best day of the year.

Are you tempted to do it again?

Probably, but don't tell my wife!

What other races have you done that you’d recommend to other athletes?

Pembrokeshire Coastal Tri is probably one of the best and Long Course Weekend is great for building confidence.

Do you have any motivational songs or quotes?

Not a quote, but I always remind myself in the darker moments of IMW (and there will be a few), 'your mind gives up before your body' so if you can still move, KEEP GOING!

Fun Fact about you

I have a small herd of Alpacas. They are fun but they don't half spit!

How have you found working with Peter and would you recommend him?

I have worked with Peter for several years, the help is invaluable. Highly recommended!

One bit of advice for a newbie….

A simple hack - put a shoe-horn in the pink swim bag. It makes putting your runners onto wet/sandy feet so much easier after the swim!

Tommy Taylor - Carpenter Tommy contacted Peter after a serious operation on his hip had hampered his triathlon journey.  He wanted to make a comeback - to show he still could and to prove his surgeon wrong!

When did you start competing in triathlon?

2015

What ‘number’ IMW will this be?

Why do you like such an iconic race?

It's a really tough race and also the support and crowds are amazing.

What are you looking forward to on race day/weekend?

Being in the atmosphere of it all and the nervous excited energy in Tenby.

Are you tempted to do it again?

Yes, will definitely do it again - if my hip lets me.

What other races have you done that you’d recommend to other athletes?

Deva middle distance in Chester. A really nice race in a nice old city.

Do you have any motivational songs or quotes?

Relentless forward motion!

Fun Fact about you

I love tractors and cheese.

How have you found working with Peter and would you recommend him?

Really nice guy who's very good at what he does and understands that we have busy lives and family commitments. It's really inspiring that he's winning his age group.

One bit of advice for a newbie….

Don't do it unless you enjoy it and never stop on a hill.
